In our first lesson I will show you how I paint a rainy day scene. We will include street car reflections, lots of red brake lights and street lights in the wet pavement to really capture the feeling of rain. You will learn how to mix the perfect shades of gray for the sky and use different techniques, brush strokes to create the texture of the reflections.
In this lesson I will show you how to paint my favorite type of watercolor cityscape, a night scene. This will be very dark and very obscure, with a lot of atmosphere, night lights twinkling in the background. You will learn how to create a sharp shadow revealing contrast between lights and darks for a realistic night scene.
In our final lesson we will learn how to paint a sunny day in watercolor. I'd love to show you how the light hits the buildings, again showing the contrast between the light and shadow. We will also use lines, values and different shapes to create the mood of the city streets as we see it.
We have explored the beauty of the city through our paintings, learning to capture the unique light and color of the cityscape. We have learned to use the watercolor medium to create beautiful and vibrant paintings of the city. It has been a pleasure to share this journey with you. As we say goodbye, I hope that you have gained a better understanding of the watercolor medium and that you continue to explore and create beautiful cityscapes in watercolor.
